HYDERABAD, March 19: A group of students seriously injured a bus driver with iron rods and three students suffered serious wounds in a clash between two groups in separate incidents of violence at the Sindh University Jamshoro campus on Monday.

The injured were admitted to the neurosurgery ward of the Liaquat University Hospital Jamshoro.

According to sources at the university, a group of students attacked bus driver Wali Mohammad Nohani with iron rods at the end of classes and injured him seriously. He was admitted to neurosurgery ward of Liaquat University Hospital in precarious condition.

The sources said that the students had ‘punished’ the driver for his refusal to take them to hostel in bus late at night a couple of days ago.

The university buses drivers refused to ply vehicles after the incident. They staged a sit-in and blocked the road in protest. They called off the protest after the university authorities gave them a letter to get an FIR lodged against the students at Jamshoro police station.

In another incident, three students Taj, son of Umer, Mukhtar Ali, son of Laung Khan, and Punhal, son of Khan Mohammad, suffered serious wounds after two groups clashed with each other outside the Computer Science Bloc over an old dispute.

The injured were admitted to neurosurgery ward of Liaquat University Hospital.

In the third incident of violence at the campus, a group of students thrashed Mohammad Qasim and his son Azam who worked at a canteen in the university.

Sources said that the fight erupted after canteen workers refused to serve the students tea because they owed them Rs800, which they had refused to clear.

Jamshoro police station registered an FIR on the complaint of Mohammad Qasim Burfat against Abdul Qadir, Abbas Lakho and Abdul Waheed under section 324, 147, 148, 149 and 427 PPC and section 337A-1 and F-1 QDO.
