Jiang briefs Musharraf on Bush visit

BEIJING, Feb 22: Chinese President Jiang Zemin telephoned Russian President Vladimir Putin and Pakistan leader Pervez Musharraf to brief them the on US President George W. Bush’s two-day visit to China, which ended on Friday.

Jiang discussed regional and international issues with Musharraf and Putin, the official Xinhua news agency quoted a foreign ministry spokesman as saying.

Both leaders congratulated Jiang on a successful summit with Bush, the agency said.

Bush said he held wide-ranging, “candid and positive” talks with Jiang on Thursday, but the two men continued to differ over the key issue of Taiwan.

They renewed their vow to cooperate in the war against terrorism, as Jiang urged caution over any decision to attack Iraq.

They also discussed the Korean peninsula, the global economy and the US missile defence plan, they said.—dpa
