DADU, March 23: Activists of different social and political organisations and members of general public staged a rally in the city, which culminated in a demonstration outside the local press club, on Friday in protest against lack of health facilities at the Civil Hospital, substandard medicines and inefficient health officials.
The rally organised by the Young Citizens Welfare Association marched on different roads of the city and distributed pamphlets against health officials.
Qaim Ali Siyal of Young Citizens Welfare Association charged that though the hospital had allocated Rs10 million for drugs the officials did not provide any medicines to patients.
Inayat Jamali of Citizen Action Committee said that the hospital administration did not provide snake and dog bite vaccines to patients and the dialysis centre had been closed for years compelling the patient to travel to Karachi and Hyderabad for treatment.
The conditions at other hospitals were no different, he said and demanded that the provincial health minister should order an inquiry into the corruption of the officials.
Later, they observed a token hunger strike outside the press club.
