SAHIWAL, March 28: The pro-Musharraf rally had to be cancelled when the ruling party lawyers refused to participate in it at the last moment here on Wednesday. Reports said that Punjab Agriculture Minister Muhammad Arshad Khan Lodhi and other PML leaders had planned the rally.

Meanwhile, lawyers continued boycotting of courts and observed a token hunger strike. They also hoisted a black flag on the barroom building.

Lawyers passed a resolution in a meeting demanding the release of nine activists of the PML-N and the PPP who were detained without the registration of any case. DBA President Sheikh Muhammad Usman presided over the meeting.

ALLEGATION: The naib nazim and seven councillors of the union council No 50 alleged that the nazim embezzled funds of Rs1.6 million besides a grant of Rs0.9 million.

Talking to newsmen here on Wednesday, Naib Nazim Rana Zahid Farooq and councillors Younus Goga, Usman Ali, Sohail Rajab, Sharif Bhutto, Ilyas Masih, Bashiran and Sameena alleged that nazim Waseem Rizvi had misappropriated UC funds and the grant.

They said they had approached district nazim Rai Hassan Nawaz and DCO Mian Inaamul Haq but to no avail.

RECOVERED: A local court bailiff on Wednesday recovered a 9th class student from an illegal custody of the Grain Market police.

Reports said that Abdul Rashid of Dispensary Road and Samar Abbas had a dispute of Rs300,000. The police on the instance of Samar raided Rashid’s house and arrested his son Irfan in his absence. Irfan was later locked up in a private cell of the police station. Rashid moved a court which deputed the bailiff to recover the boy. After recovery, the boy was produced before the court.

The judge summoned the SHO on Thursday (today).
