ISLAMABAD, April 6: President Pervez Musharraf has warned the students of Jamia Hafsa and Lal Masjid to stop their militant activities because their stick-wielding actions are against Islam.
“The stick-wielding activity leads to lawlessness and it will never be allowed to happen in the country,” he said while addressing the Lady Health Workers Convention at the Liaquat Gymnasium here on Friday.
The president said the government had gone a long way in tolerating the activities of students. He asked them to keep in mind the sanctity of mosques. The president said: “These people should shun narrow-mindedness and should open their minds for new ideas.”
“These people want to restrict the thoughts of other people and impose their will on them,” he added. President Musharraf warned the students and the administration of Lal Masjid not to try to control the thoughts of masses. Otherwise, he said, the people the country would respond correspondingly.
“Islam does not allow narrow mindedness, suicide attacks and bomb blasts, but these people are presenting Islam as a narrow-minded religion,” the president said.
President Musharraf announced an increase in salary to Rs2,500 and one month bonus for lady health workers.—Online
