Lawyers observe strike in Chakwal

CHAKWAL, April 14: To express solidarity with the ‘non- functional’ Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, lawyers of the district observed an hour-long strike here on Saturday.

Two lawyers, Malik Saadat Hussain and Mohammad Farooq Butt, also observed hunger strike at the District Bar Chakwal.

On the occasion, anti-government slogans were chanted and the protesting lawyers vowed to struggle till the reinstatement of the chief justice.

Member Punjab Bar Council Hassan Raza Pasha said that protest rallies would continue through out the country.

DRUG SEIZED: City police claimed that they recovered a bottle of liquor from Hanif Raza, resident of Christian colony Chakwal, while Choa Saiden Shah police reportedly seized 60-gm charas from accused Tahir Saleem, resident of village Bisharat. Separate cases were registered.

Dhudial police registered a case of theft against three accused Tahir Nawaz, Mohammad Shabbir and Asim Mehmood on the report of Mohammad Aslam, resident of Sang Kalan. He said the accused had stolen ornaments and other valuables worth Rs75,000.

Meanwhile, Kalar Kahar police booked two accused Mohammad Rizwan, resident of village Sumbal, and Abdul Majeed, resident of village Karooli, on the report of the manager of a cement company that the accused had stolen wire worth Rs10,000.
