Benazir praises Abdullah Shah

Published April 17, 2007

ISLAMABAD, April 16: Chairperson of the Pakistan Peoples Party and former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has paid glowing tributes to former Sindh Chief Minister Syed Abdullah Shah who passed away on Saturday.

She said, “the federation, the party, the legal community and especially the people of Sindh will mourn the passing away of a great man who put the interests of the Indus Valley Civilisation above and beyond his own personal happiness.”

In a condolence message to his widow, she said that he faced imprisonment and persecution but never wavered in his political beliefs and commitments. He remained forever wedded to the love of the people of his land and opposed to tyranny, particularly military tyranny.

She said that she knew of the difficult days he spent in exile and of the conspiracies he faced with courage and fortitude.
