HYDERABAD, April 19: The Servants of Sindh Society (SSS) has demanded that the jobs at provincial level should be given only to the permanent residents of the province and the issuance of bogus domiciles should be stopped forthwith.

The society, which met here under the chairmanship of Sirajul Haq Memon, voiced serious concern over the province’s economic scenario and warned that if the situation remained unchanged poverty and unemployment would become uncontrollable.

The meeting urged the Sindh government to devise a comprehensive plan for boosting the economy especially in rural and remote areas of the province and advised the government to establish a network of agro-based industries throughout the province to contain poverty and joblessness.

The meeting expressed dismay over deteriorating condition of education and observed that the standard of education was on the decline with teachers avoiding to attend schools and a large number of schools lying closed for want of SNEs.

The society urged the government to reopen closed schools and appealed to the Sindh Graduates Association, Sindh Democratic Forum, Sindhi Adabi Sangat and all the other civil society organisations to make joint efforts to save education in the province.

The meeting expressed concern over the policy of Dow Medical College Karachi virtually stopping admission for the students of rural Sindh and urged the Sindh chief minister to restore admission of all the eligible candidates from interior Sindh to the Karachi's educational institutions.

The meeting regretted that despite acknowledgment by the president that Sindhi youth had not received due share in employment both in the federal and provincial governments as well as autonomous bodies and corporations, the government had not taken any remedial steps so far to rectify the situation.

The society demanded that at least 40 per cent of jobs should be given to Sindhi youths in the federal government including armed forces keeping in view the province’s contribution to the federal exchequer and population growth.

The meeting deplored abandoning Keti Bandar and Thar Coal Project and demanded that the resource wasting venture should be shelved for good.

The meeting condemned loot and plunder in the Sindh Agriculture University of Tandojam by miscreants and demanded that the government should protect educational institutions and life and property of people.

The meeting criticised the statement of federal minister for ports and shipping that two more sea ports would be built in Balochistan and pointed out that the proposed Emmar City was being built without taking into consideration modern economic principles.

The meeting said that the government also failed to consult people about the sale of two islands and demanded that a mega project should be established in the coastal areas of Thatta and Badin.

The society decided to publish all booklets and pamphlets on various issues of Sindh written by the great hari leader late Hyder Bux Jatoi on the occasion of his death anniversary on May 21, 2007.

The meeting expressed profound sorrow over the deaths of Anwar Pirzado, Pir Hussain Shah Rashidi and Zafar Kazmi besides a host of other scholars, writers and intellectuals.

NAZIM: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil urged the elected representatives to solve problems of their constituents at their doorsteps as the people at the helm of affairs would have to be accountable to God for their actions on the day of reckoning.
