HYDERABAD, April 27: A group of students of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences on Friday staged a protest demonstration outside the Hyderabad press club against the removal of Prof Jan Mohammad Memon from the post of vice-chancellor of the university.

The student leaders, Usman, Nawaz Kumbhar, and others warned that if Prof Memon was not reinstated as vice-chancellor, they would widen their protest.

Prof Naushad Ali Shaikh had been appointed as the new VC of the LUMHS in addition to his post as Sindh secretary health.

DATE EXTENDED: Following protest by the Sindh University students on Thursday, the controller of examinations, University of Sindh, has extended the date for submission of examination forms for fresh, failure and improver candidates of first semester examination for fresh batch of 2007 up to May 2.

The controller has also asked failure and improver candidates of different institutes and departments to submit their examination forms for second semester up to May 2.

According to an announcement, semester examination will be held from May 7.

Examination of candidates of first semester will be held in morning shift and second semester examination of failure candidates in evening shift.

DEMO: JUI-F activists on Friday staged a protest demonstration outside the Hyderabad Press Club against the missile attack on the house of Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Dera Ismail Khan.

Speaking on the occasion, Maulana Azam Jehangiri, Abdul Waheed Qureshi and Nizamul Hyderi and others condemned the attack and demanded of the government to arrest and punish the attackers.
