DADU, May 1: A woman has sought protection against relatives of her husband who wanted to give in marriage her two daughters aged 10 and 8 years to two old people. She fears she would be killed on the pretext of karo-kari.
Speaking at a press conference, Basran wife of Saeed Khan Birhamanai of Bahlil Shaha in Johi taluka said her husband tortured her as she was not giving in to their demand. She has left the house along with her eight children.
Saeed Khan Birhamani denied the accusations and said his wife had left the house on the advice of his opponents. He said no one would kill her on the pretext of karo-kari and demanded the custody of his children.
Meanwhile, activists of the Johi chapter of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan Rohal Khan Leghari filed an application with the district and sessions Judge Dadu on Tuesday in which he said Saeed Khan Birhamani and his brothers Gul Hassan, Mir Hassan and Usman have tortured Basran and they are not allowing her to get medical treatment.
He further stated that Johi police were supporting the accused and no action had been taken against him. He demanded action against Saeed Khan and his brothers and the treatment of woman in hospital under police protection.
District and Session Judge directed the SHO Johi to investigate the matter and produce the accused and the complainant in court along with the report on May 4.
RALLY: A large number of residents and social workers took out a rally in Johi on Tuesday to protest against the worsening law and order situation in the town. They were led by Qurban Khokhar and Ghulam Qadir Leghari.
The leaders said crime rate has increased in Johi as police are supporting criminals. They said criminals are looting people in broad daylight but police get their monthly share. They warned of observing token hunger strike in Dadu on the failure of police action against the criminals.
