SWABI, May 2: The Pakistan people’s Party (Sherpao) and a transport union staged a protest on Wednesday against the Charsadda suicide attack that targeted Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao.

The protesters gathered at the district party office and marched through roads, holding placards inscribed with anti-suicide attack slogans and tributes for Mr Sherpao.

PPP provincial vice-president Abdul Malik Khan, divisional president Janas Khan, district general secretary Khalid Bacha, former tehsil nazim Masood Jabar and Haji Muhammad Fazil Khan led the protesters.

The leaders said that Islam is a religion of peace and brotherhood and those who instigate youngsters for suicide attacks were harming its cause.

Mr Malik said that the Sherpao family had rendered sacrifices for the country, adding that Mr Sherpao had vowed to continue his struggle against extremists and terrorists.

Transport union leaders and workers called for uprooting terrorism from society, saying that the phenomena of suicide attacks had harmed the country’s economic position and discouraged foreign investment.

The prevailing situation has created a dreadful situation for economic managers and there is a dire need to work out a plan to overcome the wave of extremism.
