HYDERABAD, May 9: Executive Director of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Prof Dr S. Sohail H. Naqvi has urged the faculties of various universities to join hands with the HEC in developing quality education in the country.
He was addressing the deans of various faculties and senior professor of the University of Sindh here on Tuesday. Sindh University’s VC Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, all deans and senior professors of various institutes and departments were present on the occasion.
Dr Naqvi said that the future vision of the HEC was quality education keeping in view the demand of Pakistani graduates in the international market.
He advised the academia and scholars of higher educational institutes to review the present status and curriculum and revise it, wherever necessary.
Universities must produce graduates who have specialised in their subjects and have full command over it he said adding, we need to keep pace with the fast changing world.
Prof Naqvi said that there were no boundaries in education therefore scholars must demolish such margins while doing the research work. The HEC has provided all possible funds and facilities to the universities for bringing a positive change in research culture, he said.
He said that the HEC had provided scholarships to faculty members to complete their PhDs from abroad, and hopefully on their return, the situation in the education sector would change.
Dr Naqvi said that the HEC had been providing facilities not only in science but also in social sciences and added that few scholarships would be created for undergraduates of social sciences. He said that the HEC had brought about qualitative change in the funds and opportunities.
The Vice Chancellor, University of Sindh, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui highlighted the efforts made by the university and quoted the reforms it had introduced in the higher education. He said that the Faculty Development Programme had also been developed. Appreciating the facilities provided by the HEC, he said that the enrolment of students had increased along with the quality of education.
