ATTOCK, May 10: The executive district officer (health) Attock on Thursday initiated an inquiry into the death of a woman heart patient at the District Headquarters Hospital due to unavailability of life-saving drugs and other facilities.

The EDO, Dr Musarrat Hussain, took the decision after the incident was reported in a section of the press on Thursday.

Talking to Dawn, the EDO said after completion of the inquiry departmental action would be taken against the responsible officials.

The woman, a resident of Darul Salam Colony, died at the hospital after battling for life for two hours on Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s husband, Mr Sadiq, local social figures and human rights activists have demanded that the chief justice of Pakistan should take suo motu action over the incident in public interest.

They said on the one hand the government was claiming to providing better health facilities to the masses and on the other there was no facility for the emergency patients even at the DHQ hospital.

5kg heroin seized: The local police have claimed of seizing five kilogrammes heroin and arresting a drug trafficker, in the jurisdiction of the Attock Khurd police station, on Thursday morning.

The Attock district police officer (DPO), Inayatullah Farooq, told the media that they had been tipped-off that a huge quantity of drugs would be smuggled from the NWFP to Punjab.

The police at the Mullah Mansoor checkpost, near the toll plaza on the GT Road, were put on alert in the morning, under the supervision of Attock Khurd SHO, Inspector Raja Sajid Mehmood.

When a car (Islamabad-HC-465) was stopped and searched, the police recovered five kilogramme of fine quality heroin from the vehicle’s hidden cavity.

They also arrested the driver, who was later identified as Aqal Khan, a resident of the Jamrud tribal area in the Khyber Agency.
