BAHAWALPUR, Feb 27: The local district council at its meeting on Wednesday approved 40 uplift schemes for various union councils which would be completed at a cost of Rs100 million.

The meeting was presided over by senior member Syed Mahmood Akbar Rizvi in the absence of the deputy Nazim.

The development schemes will also include the facility of suigas, sewerage and the provision of medical instruments in hospitals.

The much-needed dual-carriageway from Farid Gate to Baghdadul Jadid Railway station will also be constructed with an expenditure of Rs50 million.

It may be mentioned that the construction of this dual-carriageway was part of the uplift city package of the Shahbaz Sharif government. But instead another portion of Model Town B and C roads adjacent to the residence of a former MPA was constructed due to political pressure.

BCCI: The Bahawalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) has asked the government to waive the levy of war risk and additional development surcharges on trade which was already under crisis.

This was stated by BCCI president Chaudhry Tahir Jamil at a meeting of the executive committee here on Wednesday.

SHOT DEAD: A man, Muhammad Hanif, was shot dead by Naseer and his two accomplices over a petty issue at Model Town C here on Wednesday.

Police have registered a case.

ZOO INCOME: The local zoo had an income of over Rs200,000 on the eve of Eid, curator Dr Muhammad Naeem Chughtai said here on Wednesday.
