Gujranwala bus stand sealed

Published May 12, 2007

GUJRANWALA, May 11: The district administration and regional transport authority (RTA) accomplished the `mission’ of impounding 2,000 wagons, mini-buses and buses from the city.

The RTA secretary and his staff did the job by sealing the general bus stand where all the impounded vehicles were parked.

Sources said each vehicle owner was paid 50 per cent fare in advance and promised the rest on return.

There was no one to help out passengers who were left stranded at the bus stand. They had to hire rickshaws, cabs and, in some cases, tractor trolleys and trucks to reach their destinations.

Their ordeal would continue for another day and night.
