HYDERABAD, June 1: A mega project to promote Kashi-kari (traditional ceramic painting) is being executed at an estimated cost of Rs48 million. For this purpose, land has been allotted in Bhit Shah and the work will start on this project from July.

This was said by director-general, culture and tourism, Sindh, Shams Jafrani, while talking to APP on Friday.

About another project titled Talent Hunt Scheme, which is being launched throughout Sindh in near future, Mr Jafrani said that teams would be sent to each district of the province to discover talent in different fields of arts and crafts. He said that the scheme would help in bringing forward new talent in folk heritage of Sindh.

He said that another project to establish Sindh handicraft shops at the airports across the country was under consideration. He claimed that the government was making efforts to promote handicrafts of Sindh in the international market.

He said that the department also planned to preserve Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai’s poetry on a CD which would also contain its Urdu translation sung by prominent singers Mehnaz and Humera Channa.

Mr Jafrani eulogised the valuable services rendered by folk artistes and Faqirs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai, saying that the latter had been disseminating the message of the great Sufi saint for the last 259 years.
