HYDERABAD, June 1: Vice Chancellor, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro, Prof Dr A.Q. Khan inaugurated wireless LAN/hotspot, e-communication software and Web Content Management System (CMS) at MUET Jamshoro on Friday.

The task was achieved by a team of Information Communication and Processing Centre (ICPC), headed by Prof Dr Aftab Memon, Director ICPC, and chairman Telecommunication Engineering Department.

Briefing the VC, Prof Dr Aftab Memon informed that now the students, teachers and other users can use MUET Internet/Intranet facilities in classrooms, corridors, lawns and outside departmental premises through wireless LAN/hotspot.

He further explained about the indigenously developed MUET new web portal and e-communication software. MUET web portal was based on content management system and provides an easy and intuitive user interface. All departments can update and change their data by themselves. They can create their personal profiles, update courses, news and other resources. A sharing server was also launched during the inaugural ceremony. The sharing server allows teachers to upload their lectures, timetables, assignments, results, attendance of their respective subjects. Due to online availability of information, the students and other visitors can see the contents from any part of the world.

The web based e-communication application takes MUET Jamshoro into the paperless communication age. This application provides a facility to send official letters electronically. The singular feature of this application is that although it is paperless, it still maintains the essence of communication procedures being practiced at public sector organisations.

The vice chancellor appreciated the wireless hotspot and new MUET web portal and e-communication application. He said we are moving in the new era of information technology in which there will be no wires for accessing Internet/Intranet facilities and it will have a complete electronic office in which everyone will communicate without papers.
