HYDERABAD, June 4: The Liaquat University Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Khalid Qureshi on Monday formed an inquiry committee following protest by nursing staff to investigate into a nurse’s charges that a postgraduate student had attempted to molest her.
Sources in the hospital said that on Saturday-Sunday night a nurse, Naimat, let out screams in the Orthopaedic Ward-11 of Liaquat University Hospital Jamshoro branch and told people who had rushed to her help that a postgraduate student Dr Zulfiqar Jatoi had attempted to molest her.
The doctor rejected her claim and said that he was ready to swear it on the holy Quran that he did not make any attempt to dishonour her and he had just objected to her using cellphone while performing duties.
The hospital management has banned the use of cellphone through circular quoting Pakistan Nursing Council rules, which ban use of mobile phones by nursing staff during the performance of their duties.
The MS had talked to the nurse following the incident and promised to investigate into her charges. However, on Monday a large number of nurses gathered outside the office of MS in the civil branch in the morning and raised slogans against doctors.
The MS told the protesting nurses that he had formed a committee comprising director of Postgraduate Institute Prof Abdul Sattar Memon, Senior Additional MSs Dr Moula Bux Bukhari, Dr Kazim Raza Shah and two tutor nurses to be nominated by nurses to look into the incident and fix responsibility.
He said that action would be taken in the light of findings of the inquiry committee.
