HARIPUR, Oct 20: As the US-led coalition’s ground offensive has begun in Afghanistan, as many as 1000 volunteers got themselves registered with the Haripur chapter of Jamat-i-Islami for waging a Jihad in Afghanistan.

This was stated by Maulana Abdul Haq, district Amir of JI, while speaking at a news conference on Saturday evening.

He told the newsmen that the Jamaat, like its past tradition, had started registering the names of volunteers for Jihad against the US and its coalition forces in Afghanistan.

He said that since the process of registration of names was still on, a large of number of party activists and other volunteers were ready to extend support.

However, he said the Taliban government did not require much support in terms of manpower; rather they needed to be provided assistance in the shape of arms and ammunition.

Talking about the Pakistan government’s role, Maulana Abdul Haq termed it a cowardly decision, adding that the US never bothered to produce any evidence pertaining to the involvement of Osama bin Laden in the Sept 11 attacks and started bombing the innocent people of Afghanistan.
