SIALKOT, June 10: The house of a local trader was gutted on Sunday when an overheated wire of 66KV electricity main line dislodged and fell on it in Sohawa locality, Daska.

Reports said that the main power lines, passing over most of the houses, dislocated and fell on Chaudhry Abdul Ghani’s house which caught fire. The fire-tenders were called out that battled for two hours to control the fire. But by that time valuables worth millions of rupees were burnt to ashes. Luckily, no one was injured.

This resulted in the suspension of power supply for five hours in Daska, paralysing all the civic, industrial and business activities.

The Gepco staff from Sialkot, Daska and Gujranwala repaired the damaged power cable.

Expressing grave concern over the situation, the local people told reporters that the main electricity cables were passing over the rooftops of their residences. They said some of overhanging cables were so dangerously low that a man of normal height could touch them.

They said that Gepco officials had repeatedly been asked to remove these cables from the residential areas, but to no avail.
