HYDERABAD, June 14: The Nasim Nagar Residents Welfare Association Qasimabad on Thursday demanded that the chief minister and chief secretary direct the Hyderabad district government to complete all the development schemes in Qasimabad taluka within schedule.

A general body meeting of the association chaired by Prof Liaquat Aziz accused the district government of meting out discriminatory attitude towards the development of Sindhi localities in Hyderabad and Qasimabad areas.

The meeting alleged that substandard material had been used in the construction of main park in Qasimabad and no arrangements had yet been made to drain out rainwater from the park.

The meeting demanded that a night watchman and a gardener should be appointed to look after the park and regretted that the roads and streets in Nasim Nagar had not been constructed even though the budget had been approved long ago.

AWARD: The University of Sindh on Thursday awarded a cash prize of Rs10,000 to Anwar Fahad Shaikh, son of Anwar Hussain Shaikh, for topping score in the pre-entry test for admission to the university’s bachelors degree programme for the academic session of 2007.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Mazharul Haq Siddiqui congratulated Mr Shaikh on his best performance and said that the university would continue taking care of its hardworking and brilliant students.

The coordinator of the pre-entry test Dr Lutfullah Mangi said that Mr Shaikh had secured first from among 7,802 candidates who appeared in the pre-admission test held last year in November. He secured 258 out of 400 score, he added.

Registrar Muhammad Saleh Rajar, who was also director for admissions, said that the award would encourage the students and help create a sense of competition among them.

Mr Shaikh who was selected for admission to BS Computer Science at the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science (IMCS) said that the award was a great honour for him and thanked his parents and teachers who helped him prepare for the test.

The deans of faculties and directors of several institutes and other university officials attended the ceremony in which Mr Shaikh was awarded the prize.
