HYDERABAD, June 19: Qasimabad Union Council-2 Nazim Mehboob Abro, Naib Nazim Imam Ali Ansari, councillors Saeed Khan Junejo, Abid Abro and Pir Bux Deeshak have complained that not a drop of drinking water is available in Domara Goth, Prince Town, Qasim Nagar, Mohammadi Town and other areas of Qasimabad taluka.

They said the district government appeared least concerned about the plight of people of Qasimabad.

They were addressing a news conference at the press club here on Tuesday.

The UC nazim said that till May 31, the district government had received Rs4 billion under the presidential and governor’s package but most of the people were facing problems relating to water supply and sewerage network.

The only recreational spot in the area, Rani Bagh, had been closed and the roads destroyed, said Abro.

People affected by last year rains had not been provided financial assistance while blankets received in donation being used in the houses of officials, he said.

No steps taken to meet the challenge of monsoon rains, he said and added: “It appears boats will again be hired during rains to rescue the people.”

He demanded immediate arrangements for supply of clean drinking water to people and precautionary measures to protect the life and property of people during monsoon.

Mehboob Abro said the post of DDO Qasimabad had been lying vacant for three months despite the fact that the Sindh government issued posting orders of Agha Abdur Raheem.

He said the new DDO could not join because the district nazim had not issue the required NOC. He said the entire work of Qasimabad Taluka was at a standstill in the absence of DDO and demanded his posting within 48 hours.
