NAWABSHAH, June 29: Angry consumers, protesting on Friday against week-long suspension of power supply to their village, turned violent which led the police to arrest over 50 of them and injure some others in baton-charge.

Later, those arrested were released on the intervention of Nawabshah Taluka Nazim Abdul Rauf Khan. However, the police have registered a case against 50 protesters.

Hundreds of residents of Faqeer ji Khoi village staged a demonstration outside the office of the Hesco superintending engineer to protest against the power outage after a transformer developed a fault at the beginning of current rains a week ago.

The protesters raised slogans against the power supply company and smashed windscreen of the vehicle of a Hesco SDO.

The police reached on the spot and used batons to disperse the protesters as a result Mohammad Hussain, Rahib, Gulab, Bachal and others were injured. The police locked the main gate of the Hesco office and arrested more than 50 protesters.
