DADU, July 1: The District Council of Dadu unanimously approved the Rs2,440 million budget for the year 2007-08 at a session presided over by Naib Nazim Syed Mohammad Shah here on Saturday.

Presenting the budget, District Nazim Karim Ali Jatoi said that Rs1,536.7 million had been allocated to meet salary expenses while an amount of Rs640 million had been kept for development and Rs260 million for non-development expenditures.

He said that schemes such as Sabzi Mandi and main road of Dadu city from DCO chowk to the degree college were completed.

The Awam Dost Nazim of UC Dadu four, Abdul Ghaffar Khero, complained that Rs one million was allocated to each UC Nazim in the last budget but the ADP nazims did not receive this amount.

A woman member, Imtiaz Chandio, said that a number of houses of widows collapsed during the recent rains and proposed their construction from special funds of the district government.

Another woman councillor, Imamzadi Sheikh, said that drainage system of Khairpur Nathan Shah had almost collapsed and demanded its reconstruction.

Our Mirpurkhas correspondent adds: Mirpurkhas Taluka Nazim Ghulam Dastagir Khan presented a Rs219.574 million budget for 2007-08, which the taluka council session on Saturday approved with majority vote.

The nazim said that the expenditure for the next financial year would be Rs210.188 million and the savings would amount to Rs9.386 million.
