Flood-hit people starving

DADU, July 4: Flood-affected people in some 200 villages, who were still marooned in water, face acute shortage of food and clean drinking water.

Reports reaching here on Wednesday said that communication with 100 villages had been restored after water level receded in Kachho area.

Roads leading to Kachho, Wahi Pandhi, Tando Rahim Khan, Johi and Chhinni, were completely washed away in floods while floodwater from Balochistan entered into Dadu at Faridabad at RD 352 flood protective embankment after wreaking havoc in many parts of Qambar-Shahdadkot but its pressure considerably low.

The water level in Manchhar Lake was recorded at 113.80 feet RL as 2,500 cusec water was being released from the lake into the Indus River to maintain the lake’s level.Federal Minister for Water and Power Liaquat Ali Khan Jatoi visited different parts of flood protective embankment in Johi and Mehar. PML chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Senator Syed Mushahid Hussain are also scheduled to visit the embankment on Thursday.
