DADU, July 6: Floodwater coming from Balochistan via Qambar-Shahdadkot district entered Mehar taluka of the Dadu district on Friday inundating 30 more villages in Fareedabad-Mado area.
The floodwater is mounting pressure on embankments of the main Nara valley (MNV) drain.The water level in the canal whose maximum capacity is 2,500 cusecs, has reached 2,100 cusecs.
Sensing danger, residents of Ghari Jagir, Choli Deepar, Garhi, Saeedpur, Poor-Ji and Khushhal Machhi areas along the drain are shifting to safe places.
Irrigation officials declared emergency and set up camps at vulnerable points of the drain.
The district administration has deployed 100 police officials along the MNV drain in Mehar taluka to face any eventuality.
Meanwhile, residents of over 200 villages in the already-flooded Kachho area are facing a shortage of medicine and food.
Sawrao union council nazim Allah Yar Rodhnani said that over 35,000 residents of the area were facing a shortage of food.
Drigh Bala UC nazim Sikandar Leghari said the government had failed to provide any succour to over 2,500 people in the area.
