Dadu, July 7: Rainwater from Balochistan developing pressure at the flood protective embankment at Zero Point near Dadu district. The rising level of Right Bank Out fall drain and Main Nara valley drain had reached at a dangerous point while one breach occurred at the Zero Point of main Nara Valley drain which inundated more than 20 villages.
Villagers along with the machinery of irrigation and Wapda had been trying to close the breach. The Main Nara Velly drain and Right Bank out fall drain is discharging water into Manchhar Lake at Zero Point.
The level of Manchhar Lake had reached at 113.50 RL and irrigation official were draining out 2,500 cusecs of water through five gates of Aral Wah near Sehwan to maintain the level.
Irrigation officials had been patrolling along Manchhar Lake embankment and flood protective embankment in Dadu district to face any situation.
The Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, Provincial Minister Irrigation Nadar Akmal Leghari , Seretary Irrigation Shauja Ahmed Junejo carried out airel visit in the parts of Zero Point and visited Breach site.
Talking to reporters, the Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim said the high flow of rainwater was coming from Balochistan and we had been trying to drain it out of Main Nara Valley drain safely towards sea.
He said the Sindh government will help rain affected people and will rehabilitate their houses.
Our Correspondent adds from Larkana: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said the FP Bund will be redesigned and the Saifullah Magsi Branch will be converted into a bund section to avoid losses during floods and rains in future.
In a statement issued before his departure from the Moenjodaro airport for Dadu on Saturday, he said it was a difficult time for the flood-affected people but the People’s Party Parliamentarians was interested in the multi-party conference being held in London.
The chief minister said the PPP feared reduction in its vote bank in the flood-hit areas because of the government’s relief activities there.
He said the government was providing assistance to the affected people. The relief and rehabilitation activities were being conducted without any discrimination, he added. He claimed that the PPP had done nothing for the victims and its leaders had not visited the flood-hit areas.
The chief minister said it was difficult to reach the inundated Gabi Dero area of Qamber-Shahdadkot.
He said there would be revolutionary changes in the areas affected by floods and rains on the pattern of rehabilitation work launched in Azad Kashmir after the October 2005 earthquake.
The chief minister thanked President Gen Pervez Musharraf for visiting the flood-hit Qambar-Shahdadkot district and promising help for rehabilitation of the affected people.
He also thanked the people of Larkana and Qamber-Shahdadkot districts for their cooperation and participation in the relief and rescue operations.
Meanwhile, the pressure of water on the flood protective embankment near the Warah town continued to increase on Saturday after fresh breaches in the Hamid Shakh inundated more than 150 villages in three union councils of the taluka on Friday.
According to reports, floodwater has inundated the entire Mirpur union council, 15 villages in the Khando union council and 10 villages in the Gaji Khuhawar union council. Most of residents had been shifted to Warah before the flooding of the villages.
Sources said water had crossed the danger level in the Hamal Lake.
On the occasion Zila Nazim Dadu, Karim Ali Jatoi, MPA Sadaqat Ali Jatoi were present. However, rainwater of Balochistan had crossed Fareddabad area of Taluka Mehar along flood protective embankment and heading towards the western side of Dadu district.
