Awais wins table tennis event

LAHORE, July 8: Awais Hassan defeated Salman Virk in straight sets to win the under-18 event of the All Pakistan Junior table tennis championship at the Wapda Sports Complex on Sunday.

Earlier, he won the semi-final in straight sets by outclassing Shozib.

In girls’ U-18 final, Maliha Khurshid beat Ayesha Khan 11-8, 13-11, 11-9, 11-7.

The matches were played in the morning while in the evening, two-day trials to select Pakistan boys’ team to participate in the Asian Junior championship started.

The championship will start in South Korea from July 25. Two U-18 and one U-15 players will represent Pakistan.
