HYDERABAD, July 10: The PPP leader and MPA from Thatta district, Ms Sassui Palijo has criticised the statement of Sindh Chief Minister, Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim in which he said that there was no hurry in providing relief to flood affectees.
This was an irresponsible statement issued by the chief minister at a time when flood affected people were living in deplorable condition and receiving no help from the government, she said in a press release.
The people of Shahdadkot/ Qambar, Dadu, Jhal Magsi and Thatta had suffered the most and thousands still marooned, she said and added: These people needed relief on war-footings but rulers were insulting them by issuing such statements.
She held the government and administration responsible for the widespread devastations wreaked by rains and floods. She demanded immediate help for the rehabilitation of displaced families.
The MPA said the rains and floods also affected the registration of voters and demanded extension in date.
PROTEST: Drivers appointed under the National Programme for Population Welfare and Basic Health protested against the treatment meted out to them in pay and allowances and demanded treatment at par with other employees.
Speaking at a news conference outside the press club here on Tuesday, Mohammad Azam Chandio, Ghulam Qadir Solangi, Badal Khan Panhwar, Shahnawaz Baloch and others said the programme was introduced in 1994 under which lady health workers, supervisors, clerical staff and drivers were appointed.
Drivers were appointed in scale-4 and sanctioned medical allowance, house rent, washing allowance, ad-hoc relief and 15 per cent increase in salaries announced in the budget from time to time, they said.
However, in 2004 the federal coordinator issued a letter under which all their allowances were withdrawn and salaries fixed at Rs2,400 per month with an annual increment of Rs100. They said this rule was not applied to employees, including drivers working in the offices of federal, provincial and district coordinators.
