LARKANA, July 16: Chief Minister Dr. Arbab Ghulam Rahim on Monday asked the irrigation department officials to step up efforts for plugging breaches in Chukhi and Dyke embankments or be prepared to face action.

Mr Rahim told journalists in Qubo Saeed Khan after taking an aerial view of flood hit areas that floodwater coming from Kot Magsi, Balochistan would take 15 days more to recede.

There was no change in pressure on dyke around Dadu district while the dyke passing near Warah town was holding against the constant pressure but there was no danger of water entering into the town, he said.

The government had so far provided 3,500 tents and food items to the displaced people through helicopters and other means of transportation, he said and added that medical camps with anti-snake vaccines and other necessary drugs were set up in the affected areas.

Forty trucks of wheat straw (fodder) and vaccines had also been provided to the livestock owners, he said.

Reports said that the flood victims who had taken shelter on the Motorway protested after the chief minister took off over officials’ refusal’s to let them meet with the CM.

They complained that they were not receiving relief and assistance according to their needs.

The DCO of Qamber-Shahdadkot later briefed the chief minister at DCO House about flood situation and relief work being carried out in the area.

The chief minister accompanied by relief commissioner and secretary irrigation took an aerial view of the flood hit areas of Nasirabad, Warah, Qubo Saeed Khan and Qambar-Shahdadkot district.
