HYDERABAD, July 24: The Sindh Democratic Forum lauding reinstatement of the Chief Justice said the decision has instilled lots of hope in the people of Pakistan. Its convener Abrar Kazi and Secretary Zulfiqar Halepota in an open letter to the CJP said all was not well here as the country had been passing through a constitutional crisis creating social, political and economic problems while bringing in question the democratic norms of the state.

Deteriorating law and order, insecure atmosphere, declining human resource development, unemployment, poverty, widening rich-poor gap, crumbling service deliverance, human rights violations, and the absence of justice especially disappearance of political activists by the agencies had been responsible for the collapse of governance, they said.

“Your victory has raised hopes of a large number of people of less privileged provinces that strengthening of judiciary brought about by the historic decision of the Supreme Court, is perhaps the beginning of the end of the long night of authoritarian rule, tyranny and bad governance”, said the SDF leaders.

The foremost desire of people was to bring the country back to constitutionalism and rule of law they said and added that it was imperative to restrain General Musharraf from violating constitutional provisions by getting himself re-elected as president while holding office of the COAS.

They said coming elections should be held under a neutral and competent election commission and a caretaker set-up and called for allowing Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif to return.

The SDF leaders demanded action against the perpetrators of May 12 killings in Karachi and called for making the MQM chief face charges through Interpol. They said Sindh and Balochistan provinces which were rich in resources had become progressively poor due to net transfer of resources to other provinces.

They said resources like the NFC award and natural resources like oil, coal and gas should be handed over to the provinces for betterment and welfare of their people.
