HYDERABAD, July 29: People’s Party Parliamentarians MNA Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur has said that due to the flood water from Balochistan and release of water from Manchhar Lake, many villages of taluka Sehwan including Goth Moula Bux Mallah, Ibrahim Sonaro, Doodhani and Qadir Bux Mallah are still inundated by the flood water.
He said that more than 500 houses have been inundated and 3500 villagers have migrated to other places.
In a statement faxed to Dawn here on Sunday, he said he visited Bubak, Laki Shah Sadar and Goth Ali Khan Rind on Saturday and personally saw the critical situation there.
Mr Talpur said 5,000 fishermen, who lived on the surface of Manchhar Lake and were part of the unique Indus civilisation, had now been shifted to the embankments of the lake.
The MNA demanded of the government to provide immediate relief to the victims of the flood in Sehwan taluka and despatch medical teams.
He said that the poisonous water of Manchhar Lake was being released through Chhandan wah, Aral wah and Danistar wah which was mixing up with the Sehwan water supply system as a result of which people were suffering from various water borne diseases.
He said during his visit to the shrine of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar, the devotees expressed their reservations over the construction work of Dhamal court and the renovation of the main gate of shrine.
He said, he had advised MD National Construction Company to complete the remaining work before the Urs.
Training course for farmers
Sindh Chamber of Agriculture president Syed Qamaruzzaman Shah has announced that the chamber would soon organise a technical training course for landlords and peasants about the latest technology and methodology of crops’ cultivation.
He was speaking at a meeting of the chamber here on Sunday.
He said landlords and peasants would be imparted training on the latest methods of cultivation to increase per acre yield of their crops and in this regard experts from Agriculture Research and Extension Wing would deliver lectures on optimum use of land, water, fertilisers and pesticides and on other topics.
The meeting was told that a delegation of the chamber would visit Malaysia and Bangladesh in August to attend a dates exhibition. The meeting severely criticised the closure of Naseer irrigation division.
