SWABI, July 30: The provincial general-secretary of the Pakistan Disabled Foundation (PDF), Sher Rehman, has said the Khidmat-i-Mazooran, Swabi, a welfare organisation for special people, has been merged with the foundation.
A meeting was held the other day in the office of the Khidmat-i-Mazooran during which it was decided that after its merger the Khidmat-i-Mazooran’s assets would be transferred to the PDF.
Mr Sher said the merger of the two bodies was aimed at establishing the district set-up of the foundation across the NWFP. He said: “We will organise the community of the handicapped people in all districts of the Frontier province to enable them to live with dignity and honour.”
Answering a question, he said that although the government had fixed a 2 per cent employment quota for the government and private sectors for the disabled “but this policy still awaits implementation”.
He lamented that the special people were facing many problems but no concrete steps were being taken by the government to resolve their problems. He said: “We want to collect data about the number of disabled people in the NWFP which would help in planning for their future.”
The PDF also announced the names of office-bearers for Swabi, which included Fazal Dad as chairman, Raees Khan as vice-chairman, Baidar Khan as general secretary, Dervish Khan as joint secretary and Mohammad Zubair as press secretary.
