RAWALPINDI, Aug 1: Boys outshone girls in the annual Matriculation examination and the result showed a success rate of 48.12 per cent, as announced by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Rawalpindi, here on Wednesday.

The top position in the division was shared by two boys of the Cadet College Hassan Abdal. Both Ahmed Hassan Malik and Saqlain Saleem obtained 800 marks out of 850.

The second position was clinched by Muhammad Bilal Ashraf of the Siddiq Public School Sixth Road, Satellite Town. He obtained 797 marks.

Sheeza Manzoor Sahi, with 796 marks, obtained third position. She is from the Radiant Secondary School for Girls, Iqbal Town near the Kuri Road, Rawalpindi.

A total of 94,353 students appeared in the 63rd annual BISE examination from four districts —Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal and Jehlum. As many as 45,387 students were successful with the pass percentage of 48.12 About 1,050 students remained absent from the examination.

In the General Science Group, among boys, the above mentioned boys secured the top three positions. While among girls, Sheeza of the Radiant School stood first, Anam Abrar Kiani of the Siddiq Public School, with 791 marks, stood second and Ansa Rasheed Mir of the same school, with 790 marks, attained third position.

In the General Group, among boys, Muhammad Altaf of the Government High School, Pindori Jabber, Gujar Khan stood first with 710 marks. Akbar Ali of the Pilot Model High School for Boys, Eid Gah, Rawalpindi, with 679 marks, stood second and Muhammad Shareef of Darul Uloom Muhammadia, Pind Dadan Khan, Jehlum obtaining 671 marks and got the third position that he shared with Aamir Mehmood of the Government High School, Bhatiot Attock.

Among the girls in this group, Raheela Bibi of the Government Girls High School, Dhamial, Rawalpindi obtained 752 marks and stood first. The second position was secured by Tahira Riaz of the VPO Dhoke Hafizabad, Tehsil Jand, Attock with 746 marks and the third position was clinched by Tayiba Sultan of the Government Girls High School, Multan, Khurd Chakwal, with 739 marks.

The chief guest was the district nazim of Rawalpindi, Raja Javaid Ikhlas, who said the Punjab government would soon fill the vacant posts of 2,500 teachers in the district. He said that Rs 20,000 for every primary school and Rs50,000 for every secondary school had been earmarked for white washing. He further said Rs350 million would be provided for the renovation of those educational institutions that were damaged in the 2005 earthquake in the district.

Speaking on the occasion, the controller BISE said the work on the new office building of the Board would start in September and would be completed within a year.
