HYDERABAD, Aug 4: Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate-I on Saturday directed the doctor who examined one of the convicts of the US journalist Daniel Pearl’s kidnapping and murder case, Sheikh Adil to appear before him on August 20 along with the medical report.

Sheikh Adil was produced before the court under tight security in response to court directive after his brother filed a complaint before the sessions judge Hyderabad. He said that he was subjected to torture in the presence of Jail Superintendent and medically examined inside the jail by a doctor.

Earlier, the District and Sessions Judge had appointed Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate-XII, Abdul Waheed Sheikh to conduct inquiry into alleged maltreatment of one of the convicts in the US journalist Daniel Pearl kidnapping and murder case, Sheikh Adil, languishing in the Central Jail Hyderabad.

The magistrate was appointed inquiry officer after police surgeon Hyderabad submitted a report before the court that Sheikh Adil had been subjected to maltreatment. The court had earlier required jail administration to shift convict to the Civil Hospital Hyderabad for treatment but the prison chief submitted before the court that since it was high profile case therefore he could not be shifted to hospital.

Subsequently, the sessions judge asked police surgeon to visit the convict and submit his report after examining him. His report indicated that convict had been subjected to violence as alleged by his brother, Sheikh Aslam in his application, filed before the Sessions Judge Hyderabad, who was also the Director Human Rights Board and heard the application under sections 22-A and B CrPC.
