GUJRANWALA, Aug 5: The city district government has failed to remove hoardings along the GT Road despite setting a deadline in this regard and instead it has issued a list of new rates for advertisers.

The new rate list was issued at a meeting here on Sunday with City District Nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha in the chair. District Naib Nazim Jamal Khan Manj, District Coordination Officer Ather Sayal, Executive District Officer for Municipal Services Wahid Butt and Excise and Taxation Director Sikander Hayat also attended the meeting.

The meeting decided to recover outstanding Rs4.2 million from advertising companies after issuing them final notices. It directed the executive district officer for municipal services and highway road inspector to survey all hoardings in the district to recover taxes from advertisers.

Costly fertiliser: Farmers have alleged that fertiliser dealers are selling them each DAP bag for Rs1,500 instead of the officially fixed price of Rs470.

Farmers Zafer Iqbal Virk, Chaudhry Inayet and Abid Hussain Warraich said here on Sunday that the government had announced in the budget that it would provide them each DAP bag for Rs470, but dealers were selling each DAP bag for Rs1,200 to Rs1,500.

The Kisan Board also accused the fertiliser dealers of fleecing farmers and demanded that corrupt dealers’ licences be cancelled.
