HYDERABAD, Aug 6: The district government and the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) have signed a memorandum of understanding on ensuring 100 per cent primary education for children between age group of 5-7 years, cutting down dropout rate and improving standard of education.
District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil and district general manager of NCHD, Abdul Shakoor, signed the MoU on Sunday. Mr Jamil said that the district government had allocated 85 per cent of its annual budget for education and health sectors setting aside a huge chunk of Rs2,100 million for education alone.
He said that the district government had though formed a monitoring team to supervise 1,100 schools to ensure quality education and allocated huge amounts but the education sector had failed to achieve desired results. He expressed the hope that NCHD, with its vast experience in education sector, would help the district government ensure primary education of 100 per cent school-going children and minimise dropout rate.
A clause in the MoU read that the district government would make efforts to implement “Education for All” (EFA) and new millennium development goals (NDGs) 2015 programmes.
DCO Aftab Ahmed Khatri, EDO of education, Prof Anwar Siddiqui, senior provincial head of NCHD, Sohail Rajput, district programme manager (education), Rawal Khwaja, and a number of district officers attended the MoU signing ceremony.
