PESHAWAR, Aug 6: Two personnel of the Pakistan Air Force and a child accompanying them were injured when a bomb exploded near their vehicle on the Kohat Road on Monday morning, police said.

PAF officials declined to comment on the incident.

The injured, Squadron Leader Mushtaq, driver Zain Khan and the child whose name could not be ascertained, were taken to the Combined Military Hospital in Peshawar.

The Bhana Manri police said the explosive device had been planted on the structure of under-construction shops along the main road, which exploded when the PAF vehicle was passing by the place.

A police official said three brothers had a dispute over the shops, adding that police did not believe the PAF officials were the target. However, he said, police would investigate the incident from different angles.

An eyewitness, Mohammad Asghar, said the explosion was of low intensity and the PAF vehicle was slightly damaged.

Personnel of the bomb disposal squad said the device was home-made and it weighed about one and a half kilograms. They said the safety pin and detonators had been recovered from the site.

Our Correspondent from Miramshah adds: Two soldiers were injured when militants attacked the Banda security post near Miramshah in North Waziristan Agency on Sunday night, officials said.

Militants fired several rockets and machine gun shots on the security post. An official said two soldiers were injured in the attack. Security forces fired artillery shots from a paramilitary fort in Miramshah to repulse the attackers.

AFP adds: Suspected pro-Taliban militants on Monday shot dead an alleged leader of a gang after he ignored warnings to stop criminal activities in the tribal area, officials said.

Ameer Sayed was driving his car when he was ambushed by armed men on motorcycles in Darra Adamkhel, a local official told AFP.

The unidentified attackers fled after shooting him dead, the official said.

Residents said Sayed, 45, had been warned by militants that he would be killed if he did not stop activities that allegedly included carjacking, drug smuggling and kidnapping for ransom.
