KARACHI, Aug 9: Pakistan’s Aqeel Khan marched into the last-four stage of the India F8 ITF Futures tennis tournament in the Indian city of Ludhiana with a straight sets win over local player Vivek Shokeen.

The Karachi-based Davis Cup player was in full flow in the one-sided quarterfinal, winning it 6-4, 6-4 against the sixth seeded Shokeen.

Top seeded Aqeel played some superb ground strokes winning against Shokeen, one of the top players in India.

Aqeel now meets Japan’s unseeded Katsushi Fakuda who defeated countryman Tatsuma Ito in another quarterfinal of the US$10,000 world ranking tournament.

Aqeel at No. 535 is the highest-ranking player in the tournament. A title victory in the event can help further improve his world ranking.—PPI
