PESHAWAR, Aug 13: The Peshawar High Court on Monday transferred from Kohat to Charsadda the case of four police officials charged with killing two outlaws. Chief Justice Tariq Pervez Khan ordered that the case be placed before the Charsadda district and sessions judge, Malik Ghulam Mohiuddin Khan, for further proceedings.

The court was hearing an application filed for transferring the case by the four officials —the SHO of Kohat police station, Gul Shadi Khan, sub-inspector Muhammad Anwer and constables Muhammad Riaz and Badshah Khan.

The applicants stated that the trial against them had been in progress before the Kohat district and sessions judge wherein they were charged for killing two outlaws, Pir Habib Shah, and Zeeshan Qureshi, in a police encounter.

They claimed that Pir Habib was a notorious anti-social element and due to the fear of his family members none of the lawyers in Kohat had taken up their case.

They requested the court to transfer the case to any other district so that they could mount a defence.

They said that whenever they hire a lawyer he later on decline to continue with their case due to threats from the family of the said outlaw.

The two persons were killed on June 15, 2006 in an alleged encounter. Police claimed that Pir Habib and his 15 to 16 companions had attacked the Kothal check-post on Peshawar-Kohat road and had snatched weapons from police officials deputed there.

Police alleged that the police party reached the spot and tried to arrest the culprits and during an exchange of fire the two persons got killed.

Bail Granted: The Peshawar High Court on Monday granted an interim bail of 25 days to an alleged drug pusher for appearing in his MA examination.

Chief Justice Tariq Pervez Khan ordered that the accused-petitioner, Ghulam Haider, should be released and he would remain on bail from Aug 15 till Sept 10 so that he could appear in his MA (previous) examination.

Nasrum Minallah appeared for the petitioner and said that he was student of MA Sociology (previous) and his examination would start in next few days. He requested the court to release him on bail so that he could make preparation for the examination.

The petitioner was arrested by officials of the University Town police station on July 10 and from his custody 2.5kg of heroin was allegedly recovered.
