HYDERABAD, Aug 13: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has said that the district government will hand over 300 acres of land to Site this month to help it expand industrial area and play a significant role in alleviating joblessness in the district.
The nazim said at a reception hosted in his honour by the Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI) at the Circuit House on Sunday that the district government had already obtained approval for the extension of Site area.
He said that like other big cities the population of Hyderabad was increasing by each passing day and so was the unemployment making it almost impossible for the government to provide jobs to all the jobless people single-handedly.
Therefore, the district government was encouraging industrialisation to overcome the problem, he said.
Mr Jamil rejected the role of middle man in the allotment of industrial plots and cautioned that the middle man’s involvement would raise the plots’ prices and throw a spanner in the process of industrialisation.
He welcomed the fact that the Pakistan International Airlines had again made the Hyderabad airport operational thereby giving a boost to trade and industry. He would now talk to the chairman of PIA as well as the management of Air Blue on launching passenger and cargo flight service at the airport, he said.
He said that a construction machinery institute was being established in the city and the district government would provide land for the institute.
The district government would provide also land for business development projects and build a mini expo centre with the cooperation of chamber and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority. The expo centre would put on display goods manufactured by local industry, he said.
About the civic problems, the nazim said that the residents of 1,400 year old city had had to go through unbearable problems in the past after collapse of sewerage and water supply system and destruction of roads, which badly tainted the city’s historic identity. But the district government was now making efforts to restore the city’s old glory, he said.
HCCI President Yousuf Suleman offered full cooperation to the PIA and expressed the hope that the national airline would not suffer any more losses over reopening the airport. The district government should build modern infrastructure in the Site area to attract foreign investors, he suggested.
A large number of businessmen and district officials including DCO Aftab Ahmed Khatri, DIG Shaukat Shah, DPO Imran Shaukat, district sales officer of PIA, Ghulam Nabi Shah and administration office of CAA, Abdus Sattar Chohan also attended the reception.
