HYDERABAD, Aug 13: Sindh High Court Hyderabad circuit bench on Monday issued notices to DPO Hyderabad, TPO Hyderabad, SHO Hali Road police station Mohammad Sadiq and additional advocate-general (AAG) Sindh for August 20 on a petition filed by a woman, Sofia Siddique, alleging police heavy-handedness.

The woman said that she married to Mohammad Tariq Jatt on August 6, in Mirpurkhas but her brother didn't like that because he wanted her to marry a person of his choice.

Sofia said, she took this step as a last resort and she came to Mirpurkhas where her Nikkah was performed.

She swore an affidavit before court of judicial magistrate-I Mirpurkhas on August 9, stating categorically that she married Mohammad Tariq with her own freewill and that she was not kidnapped.

She expressed her apprehensions of registration of false cases against her husband.

She said that her brother after being annoyed, got a case lodged against her husband with Hali Road police, Hyderabad. She said police were pressurising her husband and his family members to surrender before police and divorce her.

Sofia maintained that a few days ago the son of maternal uncle of her husband, Imran, age 11, was picked up and confined in illegal custody at police station Hali Road and later he was released.

She informed that police were doing all this at the behest of her brother.

She prayed the court to declare that being a sui juris, she has right to marry a person of her choice.

Case registered against her and her husband and his relatives should be quashed, she asked the court.

She requested the court to restrain police from harassing her husband and his relatives.

SCRAP DEALERS: Sindh High Court Hyderabad circuit bench issued notices to SHO police station Kotri, incharge CID Hyderabad and incharge police post Site Kotri for August 20 on a petition jointly filed by four scrap dealers.

The petitioners—Abdul Rehman, Mohammad Nawaz, Gul Raees and Mumtaz — who were represented by Ishrat Lohar advocate — said that they deal in scrap and old items and respondents have been creating hurdles in their business and threatening them.

They said that two weeks ago respondents arrived at their shops and conducted searches on the ground that they were dealing in stolen goods although they didn't give any proof.

They said that police deprived Mohammad Nawaz of cash Rs20,000.

Once again, they said, a week ago police again arrived and tried to close their business forcibly without any reason and issued threats that if they didn't give them money they would be booked in criminal cases.

They said that they submitted an application before DPO Jamshoro but in vain and respondents continued to harass them.

They said that they were doing legal business but police were interfering. They said that they have closed their business because of fear of police. They prayed the court to restrain police from interfering.
