HYDERABAD, Aug 18: Ghulamullah Bhurgri, a landowner, appealed to the higher authorities on Saturday to provide him protection and order the arrest of people accused of committing theft in his guest house, else he along with his family would stage hunger strike outside the press club.
Mr Bhurgri, who is resident of Lal Bux Bhurgri village, Hyderabad district said at news conference at the press club that six months ago someone broke into his Otaq and stole away many things which he later got back through some middlemen. But barely a month ago thieves again struck at his Otaq and took away original papers of his car, driver’s licence, tape recorder, battery and 32 litres of diesel, he said.
He submitted an application to the DPO who forwarded it to the Paban police post, in whose jurisdiction his Otaq was, but police did not take any action.
Mr Bhurgri said that again one Waqar Bhurgri, Javed Bhurgri and their companions stopped his vehicle when he was returning from the police post after making inquires about the stolen goods, dragged him out, beat him and snatched Rs5,000 and a Rado wrist watch just a few days ago.
He ran back to the police post but they refused to register an FIR. He then reported the incident to Husri police station but they too did not file any FIR. They, finally, lodged his complaint on Aug 10 after he approached the sessions court.
He complained that the culprits nominated in the FIR were threatening him and his family members with dire consequences while the police had so far arrested only one accused. The rest were roaming about freely, he said and added that Husri police said that they had connections with senior police officers.
BAITUL MAAL: The DCO of Thatta, Mohammad Usman Panhwar, has said that funds have been deposited in the post offices of the district to provide financial assistance to the deserving people under the food support programme.
He said while presiding over a meeting on the distribution of Baitul Maal funds at his office on Friday that Baitul Maal funds were a trust for the deserving people and effective measures were being taken to ensure they were distributed among them in a transparent manner.
He informed the meeting that 9,661 deserving people in Thatta, Sujawal and Jati talukas would receive Rs3,000 each and an amount of Rs28.983 million had already been released to the post offices for the purpose.
Mr. Panhwar advised the deserving people to contact the relevant post offices immediately along with their Baitul Maal pass books and original NICs to get their money.
He directed the officials of the post offices to exercise transparency in the payment of funds and warned that he would not tolerate any complaints in this regard.
