KHAIRPUR, Aug 18: Scores of people belonging to Ahmedabad Bari village of Kotdiji taluka staged a procession in Kumb town on Saturday in protest against police. They told journalists that Kotdiji police broke into the houses of Wali Mohammad Mehranvi, Wahid Bux Mehranvi, Jalal Mehranvi, Ali Khan Mehranvi and Sajjad Hussain Mehranvi, on the pretext of search and misbehaved with women.

When the women put up resistance they subjected them to torture, injuring Satia Khatoon, Qaim Khatoon and Huzooran, they said, and demanded an inquiry against the police.

DEMO: Activists of Pakistan People’s Party-Shaheed Bhutto staged a demonstration outside the Sukkur press club on Saturday in protest against police and defiling of late Mir Murtaza Bhutto’s portrait.

Led by local p-arty leaders, Asghar Chohan and Qurban Kalwar, the protesters raised slogans against police and demanded inquiry into the incident of defiling of late Bhutto’s portrait a few days ago in Sukkur.

APPOINTMENT: The vice-chancellor of the Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Dr Nilofar Shaikh, on Saturday appointed Prof Abdul Latif Memon, chairman of the Department of Economics as director of Students’ Affairs.

Mr Memon would replace Prof Dr Imdad Sehto, chairman of the Department of Pakistan Studies, who was leaving the country for abroad to pursue his post doctorate studies.

Mr Memon would supervise and monitor students related activities in the university and would also act as coordinator.

The VC relieved Prof Dr Qurban Bhatti, chairman of the Department of Physics, of additional charge of provost and made Dr Mohammad Hassan Khaskheli, Department of Bio-chemistry as provost.
