HYDERABAD, Aug 27: Vice Chancellor of the Sindh University, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, has said that education is most important for women development and urged the government and society development organisations to take practical steps including opportunities of education to women to bring them in the mainstream.
He was speaking to officers of grade-17 and 18 of the local government working in various district government departments here on Monday while inaugurating a four-day workshop on gender mainstreaming training course jointly organised by the Center for Rural Development Communication (CRDC) University of Sindh, and Planning and Development Department, Government of Sindh.
The VC said that without education, gender equality is not possible and added that parents and society must give priority to girls education.
He said that no doubt that women are held in esteem but added that it is essential to provide them opportunities of education equal to boys.
He said that women are most important and integral part of society but they are not receiving justice. He said that no serious efforts have been undertaken in our country for gender equality in a practical manner. He said that it is need of the hour that the government as well as other stakeholders should make serious efforts for education of women and added that charity must begin at home.
He said that continuous and persistent efforts are required to make adequate arrangement at schools and colleges for girls. He said that efforts made by the government as well as other society development organisations are not enough to bring women in the mainstream and added that there is need for more investment on girls education.
He lauded efforts of the CRDC for organising such important training workshops and added that the officials belonging to various districts after getting training would hopefully work for the betterment of women and gender equality.
