KOHAT, Aug 29: Office-bearers of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (F) have urged Chief Minister Mohammad Akram Durrani to sack the tehsil nazim of Kohat who, they alleged, was involved in corruption.

A delegation of the party met the chief minister and provided him ‘proofs’ about the corruption of Nazim Dilbar Khan, who belongs to the Pakistan People’s Party-S.

The JUI-F leaders said the local government had suspended two senior officials of the Tehsil Municipal Administration, Kohat, for illegally allotting contracts of loading, unloading at the Kohat Cement Company and the Shakardarra oil and gas fields. They said an inquiry into the matter had revealed that the tehsil nazim was also involved in the scam and, therefore, he should also be punished.

The tehsil nazim, tehsil municipal officer Younis Khattak and tehsil officer (revenue) Barkatullah had awarded the contracts at the cement company and the oil and gas fields for Rs400,000 each for one year.

Later, when an inquiry began into the matter after a written complaint by the TMA Staff Association, these officials advertised the contracts for a period of 10 months which fetched Rs13.3 million.
