HYDERABAD, Aug 30: The Senate meeting of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) has approved the annual budget estimated at Rs808.4m for 2007-08 and revised budget of Rs604.634 million for the year 2006-07, on Thursday.

The meeting also approved revised self-financing budget estimated at Rs63.54 million for 2006-07, revised development budget estimated against self-finance funds of Rs19.062m for 2006-07, annual self-finance budget of Rs107.182m and annual accounts statement for 2005-06.

The meeting, which was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, Dr A.Q.K Rajput, was attended by emeritus professors, deans, head of institutes, chairmen of departments, members of the senate from syndicate, academic council and representatives of HEC and other officials.

They also approved the annual development budget for the year 2007-8 amounting to Rs530.678m, which included development schemes of extension of infrastructure of institute of information technology with Rs5.921 million, establishment of central library and online information centre with Rs6.154m, establishment of institute of communication technologies with Rs110.082m.

Establishment of city and regional planning department had been allocated Rs10.646m, construction of hostel for visiting faculty Rs12.681m, strengthening and development of department of civil engineering, department of software engineering, institute of science and technology development Rs188.669m.

The senate approved Rs15.422m for the establishment of continuing engineering education centre with strengthening and development of department of biomedical engineering, institute of environmental engineering and management, communal facilities for students and staff and set aside Rs87m for allied services.

The meeting endorsed Rs21.880m for the establishment of scientific instrumentation centre for repair, maintenance and fabrication of educational equipment with strengthening of mechanical engineering workshop and Rs17.540m for strengthening and development of laboratories of electrical engineering department, laboratories of mechanical engineering department, laboratories of textile engineering department, construction of English language department, establishment of institute of computational mathematics and related studies, residential facilities for students and faculty, and general development.
