HYDERABAD, Sept 3: Activists of Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party (STP) staged demonstrations in Hyderabad and Tando Allahyar on Monday in protest against what they called inefficiency of district administration of Tando Allahyar.

A large number of party activists staged a march, which started from the sessions court building and terminated at the Hyderabad press club.

Party leaders, Altaf Jiskani, Abdul Malik Dandani and Abdul Razzaq Halepoto alleged that the development funds were being misappropriated in connivance with DCO and the district government was occupying official properties.

They accused the EDOs of education and finance of corrupt practices and demanded their removal. Lawlessness was the order of the day and liquor and gutka were being openly sold in the district under the patronage of district administration, they charged.

They said that the district administration should vacate the mono-technical college building and cancel all the appointments made on political grounds.

STP activists in Tando Allahyar staged a demonstration outside the press club where party leaders said that the district government had completely failed to solve people’s problems.

They repeated the charge that the district government had occupied mono-technical college and spent a huge amount of Rs35 million on its renovation. The irrigation officials had destroyed the crops by violating the rotation programme and even the tube-wells had been closed, they said and complained of frequent power outages in the poor localities while there was no load-shedding in the posh areas.

They said that water supply schemes had been sanctioned for four union councils of the town but the EDO of finance had refused to release funds. Substandard material was being used in the construction work, they said and demanded a thorough inquiry into the alleged mismanagement and malpractices of the district government.

AT: Activists of Awami Tehrik staged demonstrations and sit-ins in about a dozen small and big towns of the province on Monday in protest against firing incident outside the residence of AT chief, Rasool Bux Palijo, said a press release.

Demonstrations were held in Moro, Mehar, Sita Road, Johi, Wahi Pandhi, Thari Mirwah, Shahpur Chakar, Berani, Daulatpur and other towns, it said.

Meanwhile, the civil judge and judicial magistrate-VII, Mr Niaz Hussain Soomro, remanded the accused, Ghulam Mustafa Solangi, in police custody for four days to let them complete investigation in the firing incident outside the house of AT chief.

strike continues: Some 10 activists of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) continued their hunger strike for fifth consecutive day outside the press club, on Monday. Chairman Organising Committee Shafi Karnani led hunger strike.

They were protesting the disappearance of nationalist leaders Safdar Sarki, Asif Baladi, G.M. Bhagat and others.

The strike began on Thursday and will continue for 300 hours according to the JSQM’ programme.

Qaiser Khan Mari led the demonstration which demanded of the government to release the missing nationalists’ leaders and workers.
