HYDERABAD, Sept 5: A 40-year old woman, mother of four, Ms Zareena, resident of Liaquat colony, committed suicide by jumping into Phulelli canal here on Wednesday.
Emotional distress was reported to be the cause of her suicide.
The taluka and UC nazims and police rushed to the spot and the Bilawal divers group fished out the body from the canal after two hours of efforts.
According to the area people, she had committed suicide as she had received an electricity detection bill for more than Rs74,000.
Reports said that she was visiting the Liaquat colony sub-divisional office of Hesco daily for getting her bill corrected but in vain.
Reports said that the deceased and her husband, Islamuddin had quarrelled last night over the excessive electricity bill. However, the area police maintained that the deceased was mentally ill and under treatment of a psychiatrist for the past two years.
Meanwhile, a Hesco spokesman claimed that Ms Zareena had committed suicide due to their own domestic problems. He said the impression that she committed suicide because of the detection bill was totally wrong and these allegations were baseless.
The spokesman claimed that detection bills were issued to power thieves only after collecting necessary evidence. He said that special magistrates have also been appointed to take legal action after examining all the evidence.
