HYDERABAD, Aug 7: Police arrested an Amil (faith-healer) from Karachi on Friday following a disclosure by the husbands of two women who were apprehended in Karachi on Wednesday night, in connection with an infant (Dua) girl kidnapping case.

The man was identified as Rafiq alias Jadugar. It was learnt that Nasir Abbas and Javed Iqbal, husbands of Kausar and Safia, respectively, disclosed to police that Rafiq was close to their wives and the women might have given the baby to him.

Police have not issued any official statement in this regard. Neither DPO operation Imran Shaukat nor SP investigation Khalid Mustafa Korai could be contacted till the filing of this report.

The two women were not produced before the sessions court which was to hear a bail cancellation plea filed by the investigating officer of the case, Sobdar Leghari.

He had filed the application after the civil judge and judicial magistrate-X approved the bail of Kausar and Safia for Rs50,000 each.

The two women were remanded in judicial custody by the same magistrate, as the women failed to submit their surety.

The complainant, Feroza, her mother-in-law, Khursheed Begum, husband Nadeem and her relatives appeared before the court after they came to know that the two women have been allowed to be released on bail. They prayed the court to cancel the bail granted to the women.

Feroza told the court while crying that the same woman was responsible for kidnapping her baby because she had herself given the baby to her when she left for lavatory in the ward.

She said that Safia had stayed in the same ward on the bed of Bano Parveen, wife of Sharif.

PROTEST: Meanwhile, staff of Shah Bhittai hospital Latifabad staged a protest demonstration outside the press club, demanding release of Nasir, the watchman of the hospital.

He was sent to judicial custody by court when his remand expired.
